Know Why Your Trading Works, Or Doesn’t.

Mav, the assistant inside Mavix, looks back at the strategies you test, checks them against more than ten years of Nasdaq history, and tells you what to change.

Nasdaq futures, 1-minute chart, Thursday 20 August. Price fell most of the day, from about 29,690 to 29,240.

1Short at about 29,660 around 3:05, after a push to the high stalled. Target hit by 3:30: +$360 risking $100.

2Short at about 29,400 just after 11:00, when a spike above the blue line failed. Target hit by 11:30: +$180 risking $100.

Both sold a failed push higher. Your indicator is right only 44% of the time, so test this over years, not one day.

03 · Evidence

How often it happened, how it usually turned out, and what was different on the days it worked.

Example research view: mornings when the Nasdaq rose above last night’s high before 10. 312 mornings from 2015-2025; the price kept going on 128 (41%) and fell back on 184 (59%). A chart shows how far the price moved over the next hour: it fell on 184 mornings and rose on 128. A table shows it kept going more often when the wider market was rising too.

04 · Why

Knowing an idea lost money isn’t enough. Mav shows you why, in plain words, with the proof next to each reason.

  1. 01

    Quiet mornings lost money.

On calm, slow mornings this idea usually lost. On normal and busy mornings it made money.

    Result by type of morningExample
    Quiet−$21 a trade
    Normal+$37 a trade
    Busy+$45 a trade

Average per trade, by type of morning, 2016 to 2025. Dollars as if risking $100 a trade.

  2. 02

It stopped making money after 2022.

It made money from 2016 to 2022. In the three years Mav kept aside to check it fairly, it didn’t.

    Before and afterExample
    2016 to 2022+$2,181 a year
    2023 to 2025−$861 a year

Average per year, before and after. Dollars as if risking $100 a trade.

  3. 03

Fees took 16% of the profit.

The trades were small and quick, so trading costs ate a big part of every win.

Tuesday, busy market. The overnight range was 0.74 times its usual size. The opening range formed from 09:30 to 09:45 ET, high 15,261.75, low 15,229.75. At 09:52 a 1-minute candle closed above the range high and the trade was entered at 15,267.50, with a stop loss at 15,229.75 and a profit target at 15,343.00. The target was hit at 10:27, after 35 minutes. At its worst the trade was down −0.60× the risk. The result after fees was +1.98× the risk, where R is the amount risked.

05 · Test

Describe a trading idea in plain words. Mav turns it into clear rules and checks how it would have done in the past, before you risk any money.

Example test of a morning breakout idea on 2,514 trading days from 2016-2025: 648 trades. It made money from 2016-2022, the years the idea was built on. From 2023-2025, the years kept aside to check it fairly, it stopped making money. Fees took 16% of the profit.

Your ideaExample

Buy the Nasdaq when its price rises above the high of the first 15 minutes of the day. Get out if it falls back to the low of those 15 minutes, or take profit at twice what I risked.

Mav turned it into these rules

  1. When9:30 to 11:30 in the morning. One trade a day at most.
  2. BuyWhen the price closes above the highest point of the first 15 minutes.
  3. Cut the lossIf the price falls to the lowest point of the first 15 minutes.
  4. Take profitWhen the gain is twice the amount at risk.
  5. FeesReal trading costs are taken off every trade.
